Griffith City Council is pleased to announce the official opening of the newly upgraded amenities block at Hanwood Oval on Tuesday, 3 December 2024, at 11am.
Made possible with $1,150,000 in funding from the Multi-Sport Community Facility Fund (2022/23, Round 2) and Council’s contribution of $813,000.
This modern facility was designed and constructed by Greenwich Build Pty Ltd, delivering on the vision for a high-quality, inclusive sports complex.
Griffith Mayor, Councillor Doug Curran said, it was rewarding to see this project come to life.
“This upgrade is more than just an infrastructure improvement; it’s a community asset that will benefit residents, local sports clubs, and visitors for years to come,” said Mayor Curran.
“This has been a true community collaboration, and I’d like to thank everyone involved, particularly the Hanwood soccer and cricket clubs and Hanwood Public School. Their insights have helped us shape a facility that meets a range of needs, from the players on the field to the spectators and officials.
“Council held one of our first Community Opinion Group meetings in Hanwood at the start of the last term in 2022 and this project is a testament to that process and the positive impact engaging with Council can lead to.”
Minister for Sport, Steve Kamper, said that the project demonstrated the NSW Government’s commitment to providing inclusive and accessible multi-sport facilities that support participation at all levels.
“Local sport infrastructure plays a critical role in keeping communities healthy, active and connected and it is vital that these facilities meet the needs of the whole community.
“These upgrades ensure that everyone can feel comfortable and supported to take part in sport and active recreation at Hanwood Oval.”
